Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham welcome Wolves to Craven Cottage looking to continue their recent good form. The Cottagers are unbeaten in their last eight league games and it’s seen them climb to within a point of the play-offs. A win here could see them go as high as fifth so there’s plenty of motivation for them to get the job done against a struggling Wolves side. The visitors make the trip to the capital nineteen points worse off than their opponents and Paul Lambert’s men are in a real relegation battle. But they do come into this clash on a high after picking up a morale boosting win over Brentford in midweek which sets them up nicely for this one.
Fulham looking to burst into the play-offs
It’s been a fantastic season for everyone involved with Fulham after the lows of almost suffering relegation to the third tier last term. Slavisa Jokanovic has come in and he’s transformed The Cottagers from a side that finished down in 20th last year to one that looks capable of challenging for promotion into the Premier League. They’re currently just a point outside the play-offs and they’re one of the Championships in-form sides, accumulating twelve points from their last six league games – only Huddersfield & QPR have more. But they do go into the weekend on the back of disappointment after throwing away two points against Blackburn in midweek.
They took the lead twice through Sone Aluko and Cyriac but they were agonisingly pegged back in the 94th minute by Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lucas Joao. If they hung on they’d have replaced Joao’s parent club inside the top six and it’s going to be interesting to see how they bounce back here. They’ll be confident that they can get a result here though, they’ve lost just one of their previous thirteen in front of their supporters and they’re a difficult side to stop when they’re in full flow. The man to watch here for them is energetic forward Sone Aluko. The Nigerian’s pace and determination from the front gives visiting defenders a nightmare and we can see him getting on the scoresheet here (13/8).
Wolves going for three league wins on the bounce for the first time this season
This was meant to be the season that Wolves challenge for promotion back to the Premier League after spending some huge sums of money, but it really hasn’t gone to plan. They’ve spent the majority of the campaign lingering around the relegation zone and they’re in real danger of dropping into the third tier for the second time in three years. Paul Lambert was drafted in at the start of November to turn around their fortunes and it’s been a rough ride for the Scot, but they come into this clash on a decent run. They’ve won their last two games and another three points here would seal a third successive Championship victory for the first time this season.
Last weekend they picked up a crucial three points against bottom of the league Rotherham at Molineux and they backed it up on Tuesday night at Griffin Park against Brentford. They fell behind on the half hour mark but some last gasp heroics from Matt Doherty and Helder Costa in the final four minutes sealed a massive win for Lambert’s men. A result of the same ilk here would be a huge statement but it will be tough for them against an in-form Fulham side. The last time these two sides met was back in December when they played out a ridiculous 4-4 draw at Molineux. That scoreline isn’t likely to happen again here, but we’re still expecting goals – with Fulham edging it. They’re priced at 9/4 to win with BTTS which looks like a solid bet.
