Who are NK Lokomotiva?

NK Lokomotiva was founded originally as ZSK Victoria in 1914.

After World War One, the name of the club was changed to Željezničar, under which they competed between the two wars, but were mostly in the shadow of Zagreb’s bigger teams.

In 1945. the club was renamed Lokomotiva and soon their most productive years followed as they played eight consecutive seasons in the Yugoslav First League.

They were relegated again from the First League in the summer of 1957 and never returned to the top flight.

After Croatian independence and the formation of the 1 HNL in 1991, Lokomotiva played in the lower leagues of Croatian football.

However, in 2006, after relegation to the fourth division, Lokomotiva became the feeder team for Dinamo Zagreb.

This sparked an incredible rise as Lokomotiva earned three successive promotions and by 2009/10 were back in the top flight for the first time in 52 years.

The 2012/13 campaign was the best ever for Lokomotiva as they finished in second place, ahead of clubs such as HNK Rijeka, who met Prestatyn Town in the 2013/14 Europa League, HNK Hajduk Split and RNK Split.

This earned Lokomotiva their first-ever European qualification. In the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, the Zagreb side lost on away goals to Dinamo Minsk.

After finishing fourth in the league last season, Lokomotiva are back in Europe and have landed a tie with Airbus.
